A Message from Our President
May 2008
Spring is here, and it's a good time to remind you that you need to be sure your pets have plenty of water and shade as the hot weather arrives.
It was a busy first quarter, but a productive one at the shelter. We have made progress in computerizing many of our records and will continue to work on this throughout the year. A big thank you goes out to Patricia Richardson for all of her hard work in re-organizing many of our records. This is an ongoing task which will last throughout 2008.
In February I was proud to introduce Linda Shimek as our "Volunteer of the Year" at a Junior League Forum reception in Beaumont. Linda is a valuable asset to the spay/neuter center, where she assists the staff in the handling of the animals before and after surgery. You can read more about her in the current newsletter.
Speaking of the Nate and Barbara Rogers Spay/Neuter Center, the expansion has reached completion and we now have more room to handle the large number of surgeries each week. If you have a dog or cat that needs to be spayed or neutered, call the shelter for more information and an appointment. And when you come to the shelter or spay/neuter center you'll have much more room to park. Check out our new, enlarged parking lot!
As this newsletter goes to print, we have just held our annual Rabies and Microchipping Clinic, conducted for the first time in the spay/neuter center. You can read all about that busy day in the latest newsletter.
As always, I would like to thank all of you who have contributed to the shelter. It is only through your generosity that we can even exist. Everyone associated with the shelter appreciates the support, as do all the dog and cats who temporarily reside there. But I hope that you will consider making your home a permanent one for one or more of our dogs or cats. June is "Adopt a Shelter Cat" month, and at that time you can take advantage of our special two-for-one adoption rate. Just come by the shelter any Tuesday through Saturday between 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and our friendly staff will be glad to help you out.
Give my best to your pets, and I look forward to talking to you again next time.
Sincerely,
Kent Schmitt,
Humane Society Board President.
