Taking a Stand

Cruelty to Animals Does Happen
Right Around the Corner.

Recently, an appalling case of animal cruelty occurred just outside the city limits of Beaumont, Texas. The malicious infliction of horrible pain in the killing of another creature is clearly the act of a criminal mind. Unfortunately, this is just a recent example of cruelty inflicted on helpless animals.

On December 13, 1999, two dogs were shot in the hips to cripple them. A rope was then placed around their necks and tied to the bumper of a vehicle. With the two helpless dogs still crying in pain from the gunshots, the individual craving to inflict even more suffering was finally sated by dragging them to death.

The person or persons responsible for this horrific act consciously and purposely inflicted excruciating pain on these helpless dogs. It is not only the death of the canines that is tragic; it is the manner in which these animals were tortured. This inhumane treatment is not acceptable for any creature on earth. It is the hope of the Humane Society of Southeast Texas that the person or persons responsible for this cruelty be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

We encourage everyone to report acts of animal cruelty to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. We must all take on this responsibility in order to curb pain and suffering (and possibly death) at the hands of people who intentionally inflict pain or neglect animals.

Life is as dear to a dog as it is to man. As Thomas A. Edison once said,

"Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution.
Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages."
It is our hope that the savages who are responsible for this animal cruelty are brought to justice swiftly and receive the maximum punishment under the law. It is our dream that cruelty such as this ceases to exist!
